| Having Problems With the Empire Scientific Dropship System? If you're reading this, you probably have encountered one (or more) issues trying to log on or process a drop-ship request. This page will try to help you troubleshoot some common issues and let you understand what browser and PC configurations are required from your end to make it work right. |
||
| Browser / PC minimum requirements: | ||
| <>Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 (or higher) - or Netscape Navigator 7.0 (or higher) | ||
| <>Browser must allow cookies to be set / read | ||
| <>Browser must allow JAVA / Javascript to execute | ||
| <>Video resolution set to 800 x 600 (or higher) | ||
| <>NO Pop-up blocking for this site | ||
| <>NO web acceleration enabled for this site | ||
| Specific known issues and possible solutions: | ||
| Logging in: | ||
| (*) | I type in my full e-mail address and password, but the system keeps coming back with a message stating that "your e-mail address or password is invalid"... |
|
This can be caused by the following issues: |
||
| (*) | I get past the initial log-on screen, but then I receive an error message like "Your security settings are incorrect" - and then I get tossed out of the system | |
| Your browser is not accepting cookies, or the cookies/ pages are being cached and not refreshing properly. (See notes below) |
||
| Placing an Order: | ||
| (*) | While placing an order, I click on the [Find Model] Button. Either nothing happens, or I get an empty (or only partially functional) window displayed. | |
| No windows or completely empty frames are caused by pop-up blocking software. Partially visible frames can also be caused by pop-up blockers, web accelerator programs, or your screen resolution may not be set to 800 x 600 |
||
| (*) | I finished entering an order, and click on [Process This Order]. The screen tells me that one or more fields are missing (in big red letters). I click on [Try Again], but when I get back to the previous page, ALL my fields are blank and I have to type it all over again |
|
| This is a combination of a known glitch in the system and a problem with web-page caching. Not everyone will see it happen. We are working on a fix to prevent it from happening in all cases. | ||
| Feedback After Placing an Order: | ||
| (*) | The system tells me that it's processing my order, but I get NO email messages at all confirming that it really was processed. |
|
| When the system sends you e-mail, it will be to the e-mail address that you provided as your log-on ID. If you didn't get a response, check and make sure that we set you up on the correct e-mail address. Also, we have seen occasion delays in email, so sometimes you'll get it a few hours later. |
||
| (*) | I DID receive the initial e-mail stating that my order was processed, but I have NOT received any feedback from UPS or USPS concerning tracking information. |
|
This can happen because of many reasons: |
||
| (*) | I requested that an order be shipped via UPS 3rd party or collect billing, but it was shipped and billed to Empire's account. |
|
| Third-party billing information needs to be fully keyed in during an order. We will be modifying the system shortly to keep your 3rd-party and preferred shipping method on file so that you won't have to keep keying it in - and we'll be able to process the orders properly. | ||
| (*) | I requested that an order be shipped a specific way (UPS overnight, 2-day, etc.) but it wasn't. |
|
| You must be very specific when you key in your "Shipping Instructions". We will be implementing a change to the form that limits the shipping choices, which in turn will ensure that the UPS shipping system decodes your request properly. In the meantime, please contact us if your product does not ship the way you requested it. | ||
| Technical Details | ||
| Browsers | ||
| Your browser on your PC is responsible for displaying the pages on a web site. The web pages, in turn, have to assume that the browser can perform certain formatting and display functions. The pages on this site will work with Internet Explorer version 5.5 and Netscape Navigator 7.0 (higher versions also supported). Other browsers (such as Opera) have not been tested yet. AOL users originally had an "AOL" browser, and later, they began to use a version of Internet Explorer. If you use AOL version 6 or lower, these pages may not display properly for you. |
||
| Java / Javascript | ||
One function of a browser is to allow interactive processing between the user and the web site. This is done via a programming language called JAVA, and the process used on this site is called JAVA Scripting. This programming allows the program to check your inputs and also display a pop-up window with model choices. However, many people turn off JAVA scripting because it can be used in conjuction with other things to compromise your PC's security. This can also be turned off if you are running a pop-up blocker or anti-spyware program. This isn't generally a bad idea - but it will render the Empire Dropship system useless. |
||
| Cookies | ||
Another function of the browser is to help keep track of where you are and what you're doing. This is accomplished by keeping small files known as cookies on your PC. Again, most people can turn this off without issues, but this site uses cookies to make sure that you are signed on properly and to make sure your order is properly configured in our database. |
||
| Video Resolution | ||
All of the pages on the Empire Scientific site were designed to run on a system that displays video in a size 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels high. Most newer PCs run at this size, or even higher, so there's no problem. But some users still run at lower sizes, such as 640 x 480. While the majority of the screens may still work at that resolution, the pop-up windows may not be large enough. |
||
| Pop-Up Blocking | ||
| If you are running a program to block Pop-up pages (such as AD-AWARE or AOL or SpyBot , etc), it may prevent the JAVA program from displaying the look-up window when selecting an item model. Your program has the ability to let specific "safe" sites display pop-ups; check the help file of your program to determine how you can let www.empirescientific.com display pop-ups. | ||
| Web Accelerators | ||
| Used by many people with dial-up connections, these programs give the illusion of speed by keeping commonly visited pages on your PC for fast access. Nice for you - but it can really mess up pages that change via JAVA. If you are running an accelerator (such as AOL or Earthlink) you may want to turn it off when doing your dropships. You may even be able to turn it off just for the Empire site, and leave it on for the rest of your browsing. When in doubt, temporarily shut it off completely and see if it makes a difference. |
